Canemah School

A team of Portland educators wanted to bring (usually private) Waldorf-inspired education to the broader community. “Canemah” was an early Native American settlement in the eara. Our logo solutions evokes, canoe paddles, and the little flowers common known as Indian Paintbrush, and the form drawings that are part of the Waldorf curriculum.

The warm, welcoming website draws on the non-linear aesthetics common in the Waldorf movement. It deliberately includes visuals from other cultural traditions (Japanese ink painting) alongside typical Waldorf student work. A well-crafted navigation system provides easy access to extensive content for multiple audiences.

Milk Thistle Farm

Like any small, family-owned organic dairy, Milk Thistle Farm needed every possible resource to succeed. We began by creating a logo with vintage feel to grace their beautiful glass bottles. The package design is minimal, letting the sweet jersey milk show through. It also tells a bit of the unique story of the farm on the back. Next we created a website with a folksy feel, and cozy intimate photos of the pastured cows and farmer’s children.

Milk Thistle Farm soon established itself as the premier milk supplier at New York City’s farmer’s markets. Their milk sold at Whole Foods, was featured in exclusive restaurants, and appeared regularly in food blogs. And customers liked the beautiful quart bottles so much that the farmer actually had trouble getting them back!

Stephanie’s Versatile Designs

Whimsy and sophistication dance together to define the brand for Stephanie’s Versatile Designs. The one-woman, hand-made jewelry company emphasized Swarovsky crystals in its designs. The little hanging charms on the website were the keys to accessing different pages.

Stephanie Paley is also a massage therapist and yoga teacher.

LabPrints

Talk about a niche: software for wedding photographers. During the era of berry-colored iMacs, the new LabPrints logo speaks clearly about the modern technical abilities of their product. The printed materials develop the brand through a quirky juxtaposition: slick tech vibe + the elegance and vintage charm associated with the wedding industry. Fun, no?

AutoQuant Imaging

A small, innovative tech company. Making fancy imaging software for the microscopes of biology researchers. Cool stuff. Initially, AutoQuant needed some ad designs, and the team had clever ideas for the message! Which were turned into amusing visuals.

The company already had a logo, but with a major new version on the horizon, dubbed AutoQuant X, the software needed its own visual brand. The solution? An X shining out of a DNA helix, giving the company a slick, modern look for the new product. The CD packaging and promotional materials emphasize the new graphic, alongside fascinating imagery from the microscopes which reveals some of the magic tricks this software can do.

The successful start-up was soon purchased by a larger company.

Godfrey Financial Associates

Not your usual Financial advisors. Godfrey Financial Associates are a team of women in an old-fashioned industry dominated by numbers and men. They provided high-quality, relationship oriented services in a world that’s all about numbers. And they wanted a brand that didn’t look like the usual stodgy stuff you see in banking. We gave them a friendly, forward-looking brand that evokes growth in the truest sense — and a website that is anything but stuffy. Not something you saw every day in 2004!
